Description
These slender bookmarks feature the delicate tracery from the Chapel of Grace at the top and the Chartres labyrinth at the bottom. A favorite quotation of Alan Jones is printed in white text on a blue background. Each is finished with a blue silken tassel and is imprinted "Grace Cathedral San Francisco, CA" on the back.
Size: 4 5/8 in tall X 7/8 in wide
Mounted on a card in a plastic sleeve, the following text appears on the back of the card:
Located on San Francisco’s Nob Hill, Grace Cathedral is the direct descendant of Grace Chapel, built in the Gold Rush year of 1849, and the historic Grace Church, which was destroyed in the fire following the 1906 earthquake. The railroad baron/banker Crocker family gave their ruined Nob Hill property for a diocesan cathedral, which took its name and founding congregation from the nearby parish.
Now famed for its Ghiberti doors ("The Gates of Paradise"), labyrinths, varied stained glass, and medieval and contemporary furnishings, as well as its carillon, organs, and choir, the Cathedral has become an international pilgrimage center for church-goers and visitors alike.
Grace Cathedral Episcopal Church is a house of prayer for all people. To learn more, visit www.GraceCathedral.org.
Select from two quotations. The comments below, from Alan Jones, are printed on the back of the respective card.
Be what you see. Receive who you are.

These words are sometimes used when the consecrated bread is offered to the people at the Eucharist. St. Augustine used similar words when he celebrated the sacrament. We not only receive Christ. We receive ourselves as we are and as we are called to be in Him – members of one Body.
Christ, look upon this city and keep our sympathy and pity fresh and our faces heavenward lest we grow hard. Amen.
(above right)
I was given this prayer nearly fifty years ago. A friend of mine made it into a print, which hangs in my study. And it has been part of my prayer life ever since. It is particularly poignant in our own day, given all the pressures which harden people.
