This dichroic glass cross is handmade in Berkeley, CA by artists working with glass heated to over 1,500 degrees.  Once molten, the glass is formed and then allowed to solidify.  The result is vibrant, rich color.  And since the process is somewhat unpredictable, each piece is one-of-a-kind. 

However, please note that you are buying the exact item you select as shown.  We photograph each cross offered online individually.

Measuring just under two inches tall, the cross comes on a 16 in rubber cord that is adjustable to 18 inches.

About Dichroic Glass

Dichroic glass contains multiple micro-layers of metal oxides, with a total thickness of 3-5 millionths of an inch, which gives the glass dichroic optical properties.  NASA developed dichroic glass for use in satellite mirrors. Multiple ultra-thin layers of different metal oxides are evaporated on to the surface of the glass in a vacuum chamber.

Artists can then fuse dichroic glass to other types of glass with multiple firings. Certain wavelengths of light will either pass through or be reflected, causing an array of visible color. Due to variations in the firing process, individual results can never be exactly reproduced; each piece is unique.
