This icon depicts St. Francis of Assisi who lived from 1182 to 1226.  He was a universal person whose love extended across class, religion, and race.  Revering the entirety of creation,  he helped reform the Roman Catholic Church in the thirteenth century by living among the poor.  St. Francis is, of course, the patron saint of San Francisco.

The artist, Robert Lentz, ofm, is a Franciscan friar currently stationed in Houston, TX.  His work is known around the world and reflects his experience among the poor in this country and in the Third World.

Mounted on a one-half inch thick wooden plaque, this icon has beveled edges and a satin finish.
